Considering attending BSEC?

Education is more than memorizing information. It is about feeling seen, heard, supported, and healthy. We believe that a well-rounded support system helps our students succeed.

Boyle Street Education Centre (BSEC) is a public charter school in amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Downtown Edmonton). We seek to address the learning needs of inner-city, street-involved youth who feel they have lost their space in school systems throughout Alberta. We’ve been accepting students at BSEC since 1995 – students who have been impacted emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually throughout their young lives.

At BSEC, support looks like:

  • maintaining mental and physical health
  • making sure you can get to school
  • helping with housing advice, legal advice and job opportunities
  • changing teaching methods to better suit your learning style
  • being a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+
  • providing opportunities for Indigenous cultural and spiritual connection

At BSEC, we provide students a space free from harm – no matter your identity, ethnicity, gender or sexuality – we welcome you home.

What can I learn at BSEC?

BSEC is more than English, science, math, and social studies. We help you build a strong foundation for your future by offering hands-on career options. At BSEC, you will have the support to learn new things and make mistakes in a supportive environment.

We’ve got a fully stocked commercial kitchen for you to learn how to cook in. Already the head chef at home? Master your culinary skills with us.

Do you enjoy working with wood, paint, metal, and tools? Learn to build in our shop.

Learn how to cut, style, and work with hair – we offer a broad training program in hairstyling and design. You get a full-service studio in the palms of your hands.

BSEC’s music program is extensive! We offer production, writing, and playing classes with any instrument you can think of. We also provide instruction in podcasting and radio.
Are you obsessed with fashion and want to learn how to make your own clothing? We’ll teach you.

We provide the space and equipment you need to experiment and learn new skills.

BSEC encourages students to create through their own cultural and ethnic identities.

Your future is yours, and we are here to help!
